Only in the sense that they are coated with royal icing. Royal icing is a hell of a lot easier to make when you have electric beaters. Last year I (for one reason or another) needed to make gingerbread Roman swords and tried to decorate them with blood-red icing. Sadly, my hand-made royal icing never set and I had to run the line that the blood had failed to coagulate. This time, no problems! The biscuit is a basic vanilla biscuit with surprisingly little sugar. The icing - set with blanched almonds - goes some way to correcting that deficiency. And I appreciate a biscuit that calls for the icing to be baked too. End result? Biscuits coated in meringue. What's not to love? Thank-you Mrs Fulton.
