Ant. and I picked it up today via one final delay ("can you come back in fifteen minutes or so?") and then hit the noodle bar. Tonight we tried the Spirit House tasting plate to start - great little mushroom and chestnut dumplings (I think chestnuts taste of mushrooms in any case), tasty squid dumplings, fabulous salt and peppery chicken and glass noodle spring-rolls and the inevitable, rubbery, greasy fish cakes which are impossible to eat with chopsticks. Sometimes you just can't help but look at fish cakes and think: why? Of all the excellent things that can be done with marine life, of all the good things that can be fried, of all the tasty combinations of herbs and potato and things WHY form it all into a coaster-shaped eraser and deep fry it till you mostly taste oil anyway? Food should not bounce. Ahem. Rant is now officially over.
Ant. banned me from having Pad Thai so we both did the Nasi Goreng thing. Shallow fried eggs are an entirely different fry-pan of non-fishy product. Far too much food.
As is traditional, I look forward to a Friday night which might just possibly include small party sausage rolls. Everyone needs dreams.
