Comfort Food
It's amazing how therapeutic cooking is; lousy day yesterday for one reason or another and yet, come dinner time I'm humming contentedly over the hot-plates. This confirms my long standing belief that food is better than men (apologies to any male readers who I'm sure are wonderful, decent people who have a lot to offer and are capable of healthy relationships). Last night's new recipe was not complicated or fancy, it was just Lentils in Tomato Sauce (pg. 508) from The Silver Spoon. I haven't used this book a whole lot for things other than pasta sauces, risottos etc but must explore it more. This was a great, wholesome tasting dish with just enough pancetta (double the quantity in the recipe because I felt stupid asking for 25 g) that it wasn't at all bland. Also sage. There can be no such thing as too much fresh sage in my opinion. Actually, I think that there could be entire self-help movements based around sage.... maybe this is an alternate career worth exploring. Anyway, back to the food, I did this one by soaking the dried lentils etc but it could probably be done with canned lentils at a pinch when not on holidays. Recipe available on request.
